MadTek began in December 1997 as Sasquatch Design founded by Jason Hare, Jason Ring and Nate Coffin seeking to leverage user interface experience in a new web design company. All of the founders worked for AT&T WorldNet Dial. Ralph Earl Associates became the first customer of Sasquatch Design and hosts with MadTek today. Sasquatch Design became Madison Web Technologies, Inc. in June of 1998 adding America's Best Flowers as the first shopping cart customer of the company.

In February of 1999 Madison Web Technologies signed its first annual web support contract with the Wisconsin Technical College System Foundation (WTCSF) to design and support the wids.org (Worldwide Instructional Design System - WIDS) website and shortened the company name to MadTek. WTCSF continues to use MadTek as its sole provider of web design, applications and hosting services including the WIDS ecommerce site, the Curriculum Bank online curriculum sharing application.

In March of 2000 MadTek moved to North Carolina maintaining its existing customer base and moving forward to expand its services in the areas of usability and applications development. In August of 2001 Jason Hare met with Jesse Eversole leading the company Market Driven at the time and established a development partnership to provide custom programming services for MadTek customers. This partnership continued until September of 2002 when MadTek acquired the web hosting division of the What A Concept marketing agency and the CMLite content management system software. This event officially marked the entry of MadTek into the web application service provider (ASP) market.

In October of 2002 Mr. Eversole joined MadTek as Chief Technology Officer heading technology services and applications development. During 2003 MadTek continued to grow its customer base providing hosting, web design, applications development and content management applications to its core constituency of clients including Precision Response Corporation, United States Education and Finance Corporation and the Wisconsin Technical College System Foundation. MadTek also continued to enhance its services line investing in the strategic areas of website usability, search engine optimization and custom applications development.  Adding over 30 new clients in 2003 MadTek established a track record of delivering quality hosting, content management and custom solutions at a competitive price.

2004 was a landmark year for MadTek. In addition to a 70% growth in revenue over 2003 MadTek secured web portal contracts with important new clients including the Chicago Medical Society as the primary provider of web services to the society and its members, Health & Healing as the web portal development vendor for its strategic healthcare portal and Green Hills Regional Planning Council as the primary provider of web portal services for 22 counties in the Green Hills area surrounding Trenton, Missouri. The successes of 2004 are attributed to MadTek's strategic initiative to establish MadTek as its primary brand for premium web services targeting specific vertical markets with an initial focus on medical societies, educational institutions and financial institutions.

The year 2005 was another year of substantial growth for MadTek. The contracts with the Chicago Medical Society and Green Hills Regional Planning Council alone are estimated to double revenues for 2005. Through sound financial management and its virtual staffing MadTek has succeeded in growing a company with no debt during the harshest technology economy in the history of the industry. MadTek is now positioned to emerge as a leading provider of highly competitive web portal solutions to healthcare, educational and financial services industries.

Since 2005 MadTek has moved into the opensource community by offering Joomla and the more Enterprise Plone CMS to a wide variety of customers in our traditional health care industry vertical.

In 2005, Jason built the Durham Public Schools website in using the first version of Joomla!. That year was the first year that DPS won the NCSPRA award for best district website in North Carolina. Each year since DPS has won over a dozen awards for its online offerings. In 2008, MadTek started developing websites in Plone and began offering security services and locked down intensively managed hosting for its Joomla! customers.

2010 promises to be the biggest year yet for MadTek. MadTek and Rackspace have agreed to partner on a significant number of initiatives. MadTek has also partnered with JBE Associates, an 8A firm, from South Carolina. JBE and MadTek will be focusing on developing contracts and projects for the State of South Carolina.
